Lots of kids tell us that our VBS is the funnest week of their Summer. And this year, we have super-cool prizes to give away, like real, authentic "Silly Bandz"! Parents, if you don't know what "Silly Bandz" are, ask your kids--guaranteed, they'll know! Make plans to join us ALL 5 nights &/or bring a visitor, & you'll get a "Silly Band".

*(I'm surprised by how often I am asked "How much does it cost to come to your VBS?" What?! Our VBS is a ministry to the children of our church, their friends & family, & our entire community. VBS is a gift that we give to YOU, for the glory of God. Our wonderful church family generously supports & sponsors this outreach. You should never have to pay for a gift.)

Sunday, April 25, 2010

Yesterday's lesson was taken from Judges 4 and we got to hear the lesson inside of Jael's tent! The tent was so much fun and the story is incredible. We had a really great talk about courage and trusting God. Take some time to read the story as a family--reading the story inside a home-made tent would be even cooler!

Today's Memory Verse
(Be ready to recite next Sunday!)
2 Samuel 10:12
"Be courageous! Let us fight bravely for our people and the cities of our God. May the Lord's will be done."

Questions to talk about
Who was courageous in this story?
Who 'chickened out'?
Is it OK to be scared?
Can we always trust God?
Do we have an enemy--who are we fighting? How are supposed to fight that enemy?

For next week
Memorize 2 Samuel 10:12
Bring your Bible!! (You can only get stickers if you bring your own Bible & look up the verses!)

Shout Out
to Emily--we're really proud of you for choosing to be baptized on Sunday night! We're excited to see what Jesus is going to do in your life!
to Rachel--awesome singing! Rachel, we would love to watch you on AI!

Be sure to join us this coming Sunday for another great Kingdom Kid's lesson--it will be a towerful powerful lesson.

Do You Know What's in the Bi-able?

Wednesday nights, with the 4th-6th graders, are an absolute blast!

We've been watching and learning from a great video series called "What's in the Bible" and the kids and grown-ups alike can't wait to get to class to see the next installment. This is a brand new dvd series from Veggie Tales creator, Phil Vischer--so you know it's awesome.

"What's in the Bible" is designed to walk kids through the entire Bible, giving them a ton of background information as well as emphasizing some of the most important points in God's Word. Of course, the videos are hilarious and entertaining. The music is contagious--we all go home singing the songs. Most importantly, the kids are learning deep truths.
The kids in this class are learning things that a lot of adult Christians may not know; stuff like--
--What's the 'canon'?
--What are the 3 problems of sin that God wants to deliver us from?
--Who lived when: Abraham, Joseph, Noah, Jacob, Adam, Isaac, Moses. AND, our kids can put these guys in the right order!! (How many grown-ups could do that?)
--How is a "pastry-ark" different than a "patriarch"?

The good news is: the kids have loved this series and have learned so much!
The bad news is: we've just about finished the most recent dvd and will have to wait until June until the next one is released...bummer. In the meantime, we'll be playing outside and learning what good sportsmanship & the Fruit of the Spirit have in common.

So, big applause for Adam, Ben, Caleb, Emma, Jacob & Renilo for all their hard work so far on the "What's in the Bible" series!

And, by the way, did you know we also have awesome classes for our preschoolers and 1st-3rd graders? Kids at CCF will tell you that Wednesday nights are good fun and good for them, too!

Sunday, April 18, 2010

Incredibly--yesterday was one of the 1st times the KKs have studied the story of Jesus blessing the children! This story is taught frequently in Sunday School, but it's been a while since we've dived into it, in Children's Church. It's very important for each child to understand just how precious they are to Jesus; so, we took our time yesterday & talked about how Jesus feels about kids.

Some interesting questions came out of our lesson; please check out the "Questions to talk about" and discuss them as a family. You can read the whole Bible story in Mark 10:13-16.

Memory Verse:

Mark 10: 14 "Let the children come to me. Don't stop them! Fort the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children."

Story:
Jesus welcomes the children

Questions to talk about:
-What did the Disciples try to do with the kids who came to see Jesus?
-What did Jesus say to the Disciples?
-Who were Jesus' favorite people?
-Why does Jesus think kids (YOU!) are so great?

For next week:
-Memorize Mark 10:14 (it's in red at the top of this post!)
-Bring your Bible
-Work on memorizing the books of the Bible
-Practice looking up verses

Shout out to:
-Eizlee & Zynell for visiting! We hope you guys had a good time & that you'll come back and hang out with us again soon!
-Jacob! We hope you're enjoying Kingdom Kids; we're so happy to have you!
-Wes! For winning 'Musical Chairs'; and to Emma who made it a tough competition!
-All the kids who have been doing such a great job on their S.O.A.P. stuff!
